How the Face Analyzer Works
A modern face analyzer can feel like magic: you drop in a selfie and a number appears. Under the hood this site is deliberately un-magical. It loads an open-source detector in your browser, finds 68 facial landmarks, and turns distances into a score. No paid cloud vision key sits in the middle.
That design choice matters for privacy and for cost. Once the model files are cached, you can run the face analyzer on another photo without sending pixels to our servers—because we do not operate an image backend.
Step 1: Detect a face
The first job is localization. A tiny face detector proposes a box around the largest face it trusts. If you are off-angle, backlit, or covering a cheek with a hand, the box may miss. Sunglasses and heavy motion blur are the usual failure cases. When detection fails, the face analyzer asks you to retry rather than invent a score.
Step 2: Place 68 landmarks
Inside the box, a landmark network estimates jaw points, brows, eye corners, nose wings, and mouth outline. Those coordinates are the only “understanding” the tool has. It does not recognize who you are and it does not compare you to a celebrity gallery.
Step 3: Symmetry, ratios, score
Left/right pairs are mirrored over a vertical midline near the nose. The closer those pairs sit, the higher the symmetry percentage. Separately, a handful of length-to-width ratios are compared with the classic golden ratio 1.618. The face analyzer blends those two ideas—plus detector confidence—into a 0–10 face score.
Face shape is a parallel classifier using jaw width, cheek width, forehead span, and overall length. It is a five-way label (oval, round, square, heart, long), not a medical typology.
What the number is not
A face analyzer score is not a dermatology report, not a hiring signal, and not a statement that one person is more valuable than another. Lighting, lens distortion, expression, and grooming all move landmarks. Two honest photos of the same person can differ by a point or more.
